Multan: Nurses of Nishtar Hospital continue to protest against the prohibition of wearing veil during their working hours for the third day.
A notification was issued a couple of days ago by the Pakistan Nursing Council to ban the wearing of veil by the nurses during their duty timings. One of the nurses filed a suit against the management and the high court decided in her favour. But the council has still not lifted the ban.
The nurses first turned to remonstration but when that did not produce any results, they opted for the sit-in. The teams made by the hospital management and Punjab government have reached them several times to resolve the issues but the protestors have said that the sit-in will continue until the notification of ban on veil has been lifted.
The rising mercury is adding to the difficulties of the protestors as one of the nurses also passed out at the sit-in due to heat. The protest is also making it more problematic for the management of the hospital to deliver appropriate care to the patients as there is a shortage of nursing staff on duty.
