The Sindh government has approved five major development projects worth Rs6.1 billion to boost infrastructure in Hyderabad and Gambat. The decision was made during a Provincial Development Working Party meeting chaired by Planning and Development Board Chairman Najam Ahmed Shah. Officials highlighted that these projects aim to improve water supply, drainage, road systems, and public facilities, directly benefiting thousands of residents in the two cities.
Among the approved local government projects is the construction of LSR and HSR systems in Hyderabad, which includes a pump room and installation of electric motors and pumps worth Rs150 million. Additionally, Rs196.413 million has been allocated for water supply improvements, drainage development, CC paver blocks, and road upgrades in key parts of Hyderabad. Another Rs200 million project will focus on building compound walls around graveyards to enhance safety and community infrastructure.
Two projects under the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) were also sanctioned, targeting essential urban development. A major Rs302.265 million scheme will improve Gambat’s drainage system, which has long suffered from poor infrastructure and waterlogging. These efforts are designed to modernize critical facilities, reduce health risks, and provide lasting solutions to long-standing urban problems. Together, these schemes aim to uplift living conditions in both Hyderabad and Gambat.
Officials emphasized that these projects are not just about construction but about long-term improvement in public service delivery. Better water supply and drainage will reduce health issues, while road and paver block upgrades will enhance mobility. The graveyard wall project will also address community concerns by ensuring safer and more organized public spaces. These initiatives collectively underline the government’s intent to prioritize local needs.
Chairman Najam Ahmed Shah stressed the importance of timely completion, stating that delays in development hinder public welfare and economic growth. He urged all concerned departments to execute the projects with efficiency and transparency, ensuring people see quick and visible improvements. Authorities believe successful implementation will not only improve infrastructure but also restore public confidence in provincial governance.
Moving forward, the projects are expected to create job opportunities during construction while offering long-term social and economic benefits to communities. By addressing water, sanitation, and road infrastructure challenges, the government aims to foster sustainable development. With careful monitoring and effective use of resources, these projects could serve as models for future initiatives across Sindh.
