ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Awami Muslim League (AML) President Sheikh Rashid Ahmed said on Monday that only the army chief and the chief justice could save democracy.
He submitted an adjournment motion to the National Assembly Secretariat against the Panama leaks. It was mentioned in the motion that the issue of Panama leaks should be taken up in the National Assembly because the second list of the owners of the offshore companies issued by the Panama Papers intensified the issue.
Ahmed said the second list published by the Panama Papers carried the names of more than 400 Pakistanis. He said it was a serious issue, which might threaten democracy in Pakistan. There should be a transparent investigation into the Panama leaks if democracy has to be saved in Pakistan, he said. He said the opposition could not backtrack on its principled stand.
